What is going on at 6sync?

In the past couple of weeks many of you approached us and asked what is going on since it has been unusually quiet at 6sync. Well, in a way, we are all happy that things are quiet, it means that there are no real problems and can focus on other things. On the other hand, it could be a sign of trouble - but not in this case, of course ;)

We are hard at work behind the counter of our bakery cooking something really great for all you guys. By constantly challenging ourselves and trying to improve our service, we hope ...

Updated flavors! Arch and Gentoo

Just a quick note.. our Arch Linux images have been updated to nice fresh 2011.08 versions to coincide with the new Arch 2011.08 installation media. Since Arch Linux is a rolling release the old (2010.05) images were very long in the tooth so this is a nice refresh. A few highlights include the new Linux 3.0 kernel and updated rc.conf format.

Similarly, our Gentoo templates are also due for an update and will be hitting Biscuit very soon! We'll update this post as soon they hit.

The transition from IPv4 to IPv6 will be gradual but 6sync have now taken our first steps toward this by rolling out IPv6 connectivity!

Each 6sync client will now receive access to an entire IPv6 /64 block which will provide 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 (18 quintillion) addresses that can ...

Network issue post-mortem

Unfortunately, the time has come where all of us had to go through the storm – after one year of flawless network operation, something cracked and we experienced downtime. This post serves as an explanation, and an apology on our part – rest assured we are doing everything in our power to prevent this from happening in the future.

Somewhere around 14:00 CET we received several notifications of servers and VMs going offline, and immediately assigned on the job technicians who started to troubleshoot the issue. Network access was fully restored 90 minutes later, after identifying and fixing the issue.

The ...

On 6 baskets, cookies and gifts

It is no secret that we are very proud of the service we provide to our customers. Indeed, I am often afraid to call the people with whom I communicate daily our customers, because I know their names, I know what they like, what games they play, or the editor they prefer. From twitter, to IRC and our (still underpopulated) forums we really try to show that we care for you in every possible way, and that you are in safe hands even if something goes wrong.

We know that you like us too, you've showed that numerous times ...
